About me

I am an experienced Design and Technology teacher. I have taught Design and Technology Resistant materials, Product Design, Graphics, Engineering to students aged 11-18, plus Art and Textiles to KS3.

I am passionate about using my manufacturing skills and knowledge to inspire young people to explore and develop their own skills and talents.

With 14 years’ experience of teaching design and technology in a secondary school and sixth form, I am adept in developing the curriculum, planning and delivering sequences of lessons and projects that motivate students and inspire them to be the best they can be.

My leadership roles have given me hands on experience of shaping the development of both the department and the wider school, leading and supporting colleagues, and long-term planning for excellence.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY KS5 COORDINATOR August 2019- August 2021                                             

  • My last lesson observation was rated as “Outstanding” by the headteacher.

  • I have a proven track record of raising attainment over time. My most recent A level cohort achieved 100% A*-B.

  • I led and supported the department in continually adapting the curriculum and its implementation during the pandemic, including the creation of new projects and resources.

  • I initiated, coordinated and led the manufacture of over 6000 items of PPE that were distributed to health care professionals and during the spring 2020 lockdown, raising the profile of design and technology within our school.

  • Year on year I continually sought to improve and adapt the design and technology experience by creating and introducing new projects and their associated resources to challenge and inspire students.

DEPUTY HEAD OF SIXTH FORM  August 2013- August 2016                                                            

  • Described as an “Outstanding Deputy” by the Head of Sixth Form.

  • I coordinated and implemented a highly successful mentoring system that contributed to the sixth form being rated as ‘outstanding’ in 2017.

  • I created a new year sixth form citizenship programme together with lesson resources, to enable tutors to deliver high quality citizenship lessons.

  • In my role as deputy, I successfully led and supported a team of 16 tutors.

  • I organised and led key events including year group visits, social events, charity events and parent evenings.

  • I monitored attendance, attainment and the performance of over 300 students and carrying out support and intervention throughout the academic year.

  • I worked with other professionals to support a caseload of high-profile students, with a wide range of needs including SEND students, students with emotional or mental health needs, disadvantaged students and students in local authority care.

YEAR 13 LEAD TUTOR   August 2012- August 2013

  • I supported tutors and students with the UCAS process, including creating support materials including handbooks and presentations to guide students through their applications.

  • I provided support and guidance for a caseload of high-profile year 13 students and their parents/ guardians.

  • I contributed to the running of the sixth form by leading year team meetings and by acting as an interface between the deputy head of sixth form and the tutor team.

 

YEAR 12 LEAD TUTOR   August 2011- August 2012  

  • I had a key role in supporting the year tutors with the new year 12 induction process which involved producing and sharing resources, coordinating events and providing induction materials.

  • I provided support and guidance for a caseload of high-profile year 12 students and their parents/ guardians.

  • I contributed to the running of the sixth form by leading year team meetings and by acting as an interface between the deputy head of sixth form and the tutor team.
